Last month, our good friend and NBA champ, Iman Shumpert touched down in NYC and hit us up to tag along as he made some promo runs throughout the city.
Shump has not only been dribbling the basketball since a youngin’, he’s also been spitting bars and making music for a few years now, too. His latest single is “Seductive,” check it out (above)!
Our first stop was Vice headquarters in Brooklyn to hangout with Desus & Mero for Viceland. Iman always looking fresh and up on his fashion game went straight from make-up…
…To watching clips and discussing everything from Kyrie Irving, to Oprah, and Gabrielle Union.
After bugging out with the crew we headed to MTV, where he played Rock, Paper, Scissors with teammate Tristan Thompson and some fans on TRL. Iman discussed working with DC Young Fly, his music, and surprising his wife with a Janet Jackson call.
This trip would not have been complete without dropping by the Compound — A meeting space, recording studio and gallery. It’s where likeminded creatives get together to create!
In fact, Iman has recorded a few solo tracks at our Compound studio, but this time he had company in the booth: Compound and HeavyHitters artist, Annalise Azadian was in the building too!
Iman got to hear Annalise perform live as she was recording another Compound Cover (below is her version of Goldlink’s Crew Love). Annalise had also just finished shooting for her latest single “Passenger Mirror.”
This impromptu moment inspired Iman and Annalise to cook up a single together on the spot! The unlikely duo chose a beat by friend and producer BudaDaFuture (one half of the Steel Sessions producer team Buda and Grandz)
Iman and Annalise brainstormed the concept of the song using the symbology of a rose. Stay tuned for the single’s drop and be sure to keep up with Iman both on and off the courts!
